Municipality expects to have 75% of the territory with fiber optics by September

The Amarante Chamber predicts that, by September, the high-speed digital network via optical fiber will reach 11,000 families in the municipality as part of a project by a wholesale telecommunications operator.

In a statement, the municipality stresses that that project, which will be developed over the next four months, will result in coverage of 75 percent of the territory.

Currently, part of that network is already installed in Vila Caiz, a parish close to the county seat.

Cited in a statement by the mayor, José Luís Gaspar, stresses that providing the territory with a fiber optic network is “a priority”.

“We are pleased to see that by the end of the year practically the entire territory will be covered, including areas with low population density”, he adds.

In the same press release, the company responsible for the project points out that the expansion, in line with the purpose of bringing optical fiber to locations with lower population density, “contributes to the establishment of population and creates new opportunities for the region”.
