dstelecom expands “digital highway”: optical fiber has already reached Pardais (Vila Viçosa)

dstelecom has just extended its multi-operator optical fiber network to Pardais, a parish in the municipality of Vila Viçosa, thus ensuring that the population can contract telecommunications services with more speed, greater bandwidth and better quality.

The information is provided by the company itself, in a statement sent to our editorial team. According to the statement, “ensuring full coverage of the parish, the company states that the objective of this extension is to contribute not only to the settlement of the population, but also to the creation of new opportunities for the territory, thus increasing the economic benefits and social.”

At this moment and after the investment that had also been made in Bencatel and the parish of Nossa Senhora da Conceição and São Bartolomeu in 2015, dstelecom's infrastructure now covers 97% of the municipality.

The missing 3% are on the perimeter of the so-called white zones, that is, “where, taking into account population density, there is no economic rationale to cover without subsidy.”

From now on, the same note can read “as all operators operating in Portugal make their services available to the end consumer through this optical fiber network, families and companies based in Vila Viçosa will be able to choose any service, without any limitation or discrimination, of a broad offer of all retail operators operating in Portugal”.

According to Inácio Esperança, President of Vila Viçosa City Council, who supported the work carried out, this expansion was very positive, as it made it possible to greatly improve optical fiber coverage in the territory.

“Vila Viçosa now has greater access to the optical fiber network, thanks to a network reinforcement that brought connectivity to around 1,400 homes in the municipality and an extension that guaranteed full coverage of Pardais. We hope, this year, to ensure access to optical fiber in the parish of São Romão and reach a coverage rate of 100%”, declared the mayor.
