The project began with a pilot in Salvaterra de Magos, followed by Vila Nova de Cerveira, Cinfães and Castro Marim. From 2020 onwards, the plan gained national scale, with solar panels expected to be installed in 43 PoPs across 33 municipalities by 2025 alone.
By the end of 2025, the company estimates that it will have 79 PoPs equipped with solar panels in 70 municipalities, totalling 405 kWp of installed power. This investment will prevent the emission of 78 tonnes of carbon dioxide in a single year, equivalent to 120 flights between Lisbon and London.
By 2026, dstelecom plans to expand the project to 92 municipalities, with 107 equipped PoPs and more than 500 kWp of installed power. The estimate points to an annual reduction of 88 tonnes of CO₂.
According to Ricardo Salgado, CEO of dstelecom, "we are transforming a technological infrastructure into an ally of the environment. Each panel installed reduces consumption and emissions, protects equipment through shading and strengthens the resilience of the fibre network".
The expansion plan continues in 2026, with plans to reach 92 municipalities, 107 equipped PoPs and more than 500 kWp of installed power, ensuring an annual reduction of 88 tonnes of CO2.
With this initiative, dstelecom consolidates its position in the sector's energy transition, showing that technology and sustainability can go hand in hand with concrete benefits for the environment and local communities.
