On May 20, the municipality of Torre de Moncorvo and dstelecom signed a protocol at the Town Hall of Torre de Moncorvo that will allow the expansion of the fiber optic network, which will benefit a further 3,500 families, leaving the municipality with full fiber optic coverage for all commercial operators and their respective residents.
This protocol also includes coverage of points of economic and tourist interest, such as the Junqueira Business Area, guaranteeing fibre to resident companies, as well as implementing coverage in the Foz do Sabor River Beach area.
dstelecom will set up a ‘Point of Presence’ (POP) and once the appropriate technical conditions have been checked to guarantee the quality of the service, it will be located in the backyard of the old school in Maçores. The company will also adjust the route of the fibre optic network in order to guarantee coverage of all municipal infrastructures/buildings, as well as points of interest that may arise after the signing of this contract and where there is a high shortage of fibre optic services, in accordance with the projects submitted in advance by the council, provided that they are within dstelecom's coverage area.
For the Mayor of Torre de Moncorvo, José Meneses, this "is one of the most important contracts we've signed in recent times, as it aims to provide 100% fibre optic coverage throughout the municipality by the end of the year. This is a very important step that will give us greater network capacity and could help us attract people to the municipality, especially the much-talked-about digital nomads."
Ricardo Salgado, CEO of dstelecom, said: "With this new expansion, we want to provide quality connectivity and foster competitiveness and innovation in areas that are traditionally less favoured in terms of technological infrastructure. This is another step in our commitment to promoting digital inclusion and reducing inequalities in internet access."
