dstelecom and IPVC students transform fibre waste into sustainable products

On 20 March, dstelecom was present at the Cultural Workshop of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC) to attend presentations of the results of the "Opus Fibrae" project, developed by students from the Integrated Design Master's Degree course at the School of Technology and Management.

This partnership was born out of an environmental concern, which values design as an essential component in creating innovative approaches to sustainability. In this context, the 21 students were challenged to reuse fibre optic waste, with the aim of discovering new usage scenarios and exploring new value chains. Over the course of 5 weeks, accompanied by lecturers Ermanno Aparo, Manuel Rivas and António Labrincha, they put their creativity into practice, transforming different types of cables into surprising creations, ranging from furniture for indoor and outdoor spaces to fashion accessories.

At dstelecom we recognise the potential of students and believe that innovation is an important lever for the economic and social growth of companies. Therefore, every year we promote the development of master's theses in the company, ensuring that students receive all the necessary support to guarantee their success. In this way, we ensure the transfer of knowledge from the academic to the business environment, and we also encourage the student body in its process of introduction to the labour market.

We are pleased with the results achieved so far and look forward to seeing what the future holds for these talented students. Together, we can create a more sustainable and innovative future!
