The Municipal Council of Arcos de Valdevez is expanding the fiber-optic network throughout the municipality.

“The fiber-optic network will reach the parishes of Foros de Arrão, Galveias, and Montargil, nearby localities surrounding these parish centers, as well as Ervideira and Vale do Arco. Once the installation is completed—expected by the end of this year—around 95% of the municipality’s territory will be covered by this high-speed information technology network.”

We spoke with Catarina Lourenço, President of the Parish Council of Cambeses, in the municipality of Monção, who highlighted not only the benefits of fiber-optic connectivity but also the free internet project implemented for the local population.

According to the annual study carried out by consultancy IDATE for the FTTH Council Europe—the association representing the European fiber-optic network ecosystem—Portugal is the country with the highest percentage of fiber-optic coverage in rural areas.
