The roll-out of fiber optic broadband in Montalegre now covers 1,700 homes, boosting digital inclusion and providing high-speed internet to families in areas that were previously not covered.
dstelecom, a fiber optic infrastructure operator, has announced a significant expansion of its network in the municipality of Montalegre, covering a further 10 localities by the end of the second quarter of 2026. This expansion aims to provide around 1,700 new homes with high-speed internet access, bringing total coverage to 7,900 households and reaching over 70% of the municipal area.
The new localities to be served by fiber optic for the first time include Negrões, Cambeses do Rio, Donões, Mourilhe, Padornelos, Padroso and Fervidelas. In addition, the localities of Chã, Morgade and Vila da Ponte will see their fiber optic infrastructure upgraded.
This initiative by dstelecom aims to ensure that residents of Montalegre have access to a fast and stable internet connection, comparable to that available in major urban centres.
Present in Montalegre since 2015, dstelecom reaffirms its commitment to digital inclusion and local development, focusing on regions with limited access to technological infrastructure.

Ricardo Salgado, CEO of dstelecom, emphasises the importance of this expansion. “Achieving this coverage in one of the municipalities of Barroso demonstrates dstelecom’s strong commitment to territorial cohesion. These localities are now part of a network that offers new opportunities for local families, businesses and institutions,” he says.
dstelecom’s multi-operator network allows residents to choose between the main telecoms operators operating in Portugal, promoting flexibility and more competitive prices for consumers.
