dstelecom will expand its multi-operator fiber-optic network in the municipality of Valpaços during the third quarter of this year, extending coverage to approximately 1,300 new homes and bringing the total number of addresses covered to 9,900—equivalent to 72% of the municipal territory.
In a statement, the company indicated that the infrastructure will reach the parishes of Algeriz, Padrela, Tazem, and São João da Corveira for the first time. The network will also be expanded in the towns of Carrazedo de Montenegro, Curros, and Santa Maria de Emeres.
dstelecom, which has been operating in the municipality since 2014, stated that the investment aims to improve access to connectivity in regions with limited technological infrastructure coverage, thereby promoting digital inclusion and local development.
Quoted in the press release, the mayor of Valpaços, Jorge Mata Pires, noted that the network expansion represents “a strategic investment to strengthen territorial cohesion and promote economic and social development” in the municipality.
According to the mayor, the improvement of digital infrastructure will provide better internet access for families, businesses, institutions, and public services, helping to reduce disparities and create new opportunities for growth, innovation, and competitiveness.
Jorge Mata Pires added that access to modern and efficient communication networks is crucial for improving people’s quality of life, attracting investment, and encouraging people to stay in the region.
For his part, dstelecom’s CEO, Ricardo Salgado, stated that the network upgrade in Valpaços reflects the company’s commitment to reducing the digital divide and creating conditions so that people and businesses have access to the same opportunities, regardless of their location.
The company also noted that its fiber-optic network is open access, allowing consumers to choose among the leading telecommunications operators in the Portuguese market.
