Fiber optic internet reaches over 1,000 homes in Alcoutim, exceeding 80% coverage

dstelecom, a fiber optic infrastructure operator, announces the expansion of its multi-operator network in the municipality of Alcoutim, aiming to reach 1,000 new homes by the end of the first half of 2026. This initiative will allow more than 3,100 families to access next-generation broadband services, raising the municipality’s total coverage to 82%.

The network expansion will focus on the towns of Alcoutim, Giões, and Pereiro, reinforcing DSTelecom’s presence in the municipality, where it has operated since 2015. This investment is seen as a crucial factor for the economic, social, and territorial development of the region, combating the depopulation of the interior and promoting modernization.

Paulo Paulino, Mayor of Alcoutim, underlines the importance of this infrastructure, saying that “the expansion of fiber optics in our municipality can represent a decisive factor for the economic, social and territorial development of Alcoutim. In the medium and long term, this expansion contributes to making the municipality more attractive, more competitive and more sustainable, reinforcing territorial cohesion and creating conditions for the settlement of people, businesses and investment. This is an essential infrastructure to face the challenges of depopulation in the interior and to promote a balanced and inclusive development of the territory. We are also joining efforts with dstelecom to strengthen the network in Martim Longo and Vaqueiros.”
